Waste Reduction Partners is uniquely staffed with retired engineers, scientists, and staff who share their expertise with businesses and communities across North Carolina. As a multidisciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, civil, environmental, and chemical engineers, scientists, and architects, they have had distinguished careers in a variety of industries, such as automotive, food, textile, utility, chemical, paper, construction, aerospace, electronics, and government. This remarkable group has more than 2,200 years of cumulative experience.

Spent 36 years servicing and selling to industrial water treatment accounts. This involved taking care of  boilers, cooling towers, waste treatment systems, and closed loop cooling systems in industries such as power plants, paper mills, textile plants, food processing plants, and hospitals. Optimized water usage, as well as protect the systems from scale, corrosion, and biological growth.

Work Experience:

Work History:

John spent ten years at NC State University where he performed energy surveys with the Energy Solutions Group, and renewable energy assessments with the North Carolina Solar Center. He spent thirty years as an Electrical and Control Systems Engineer in consulting engineering with an emphasis on industrial and utility steam and power generation. He teaches workshops and classes on energy efficiency and renewable energy topics.

Education:

B.S.Degree in Eletrical Engineering from the University of Alabama.

Work History:

Tom Rhodes has 34 years of experience in waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.  He served as manager for Burke County’s BERT Recycling Program, and Iredell County’s Recycling Program. As Program Manager for the Department of Environmental Assistance and Customer Service, he developed the NC GreenTravel Initiative Partnership with WRP, East Carolina University’s Center for
Sustainable Tourism, and EDPNC’s Visit NC program. NC GreenTravel Initiative is a sustainability program focusing on waste reduction, water conservation, and energy conservation for North Carolina’s travel and tourism industry.

Education:

Tom holds a diploma in Energy Management from North Carolina State University and a recycling coordinator certification from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Riddle, Joe

Work History:

Fourteen years in the furniture industry as a facility and environmental engineer and a year in the mining industry as a plant engineer.  Also worked nine years as a plant and process engineer in the converting industry and three years as a project engineer for the textile and nuclear industries.  Worked three years in sales and design to the polymer industry plus worked as a project engineer in the hydraulic hose, rope manufacture and other industries.

Education:

BET in Mechanical Engineering from UNCC, AAS from Central Piedmont Community College in mechanical drafting and design.  Also have Six Sigma Lean Green Belt training.

Work History:

John performed many energy audits and energy retrofits for the US DOE Schools and Hospitals programs.  He has worked for many years as a mechanical engineer, designing HVAC systems for schools, universities, and hospitals.  These projects included design of boiler and chiller plants, custom air handling units, and green buildings.  He has also served on the North Carolina Energy Ad Hoc Committee for the NC Code Council.
