Waste Reduction Partners received 2011 Community Service Award
On November 9, 2011, Waste Reduction Partners received the 2011 Community Service Award from the North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association. The NCSEA annual award recognizes individuals and organizations that have made substantial contributions to further sustainable energy efforts in North Carolina.
Since 2000, WRP team of volunteer retired and staff engineers has assisted 1700 clients to achieve $24.2 million in energy cost savings, 267,500 megawatts hours of electricity (nearly 1 trillion BTU of total energy) reduction, with an environmental impact reduction of nearly one million metric tons (MMTCO2e) of greenhouse gases.
The team also has helped clients divert over 204,500 tons of solid waste from landfills and conserve over 608 million gallons of water over the same period. Last year WRP clients implemented, on average, 74 percent of the energy-saving recommendations provided. Having delivered more than 182,000 hours of community technical assistance, the dedicated WRP volunteers have been recognized in numerous media publications, business journals, and even Parade Magazine.
The award was presented during the 2011 Making Energy Work conference at the Raleigh Convention Center.
